I had a conference in Pensacola this past week and the guys decided to tag along. We were a little nervous because Ephrem had just started taking his sleep routine seriously and we didn’t mess it up, but we also didn’t want to miss out on a little fun as a family.
We are quite blessed that Ephrem is overall an easy-going kid and travels well. We do let him have “screen time” when we drive because he’s not really old enough to do anything else. (i plan to make busy bags when hes older…) So we watch A LOT of Elmo. So much so, apparently, that now we we get to the car he says, “Mmmmo?” [elmo]. At least I know what his second birthday party theme will be! The DVD player was probably the best purchase of the summer – we’ve used it on all of our long trips and the Little Man has been a champ each time. I call this his Elmo trance.
It was a great time. While I did the conference thing, the guys hung out – ate pancakes at IHOP (As Evan says, Ephrem is very much like me in his affinity to pancakes), went on some walks, took naps. Friday when the conference let out, we did some beach time.
After beach time, we got cleaned up and went to dinner to celebrate my birthday. If you ever stay in Gulf Breeze, Florida, check out Flounder’s. It’s a little pricy, but the food was great and so was the atmosphere.
Ephrem was very contemplative during dinner. I guess he was just thinking about the meaning of life and French fries.
We took our time getting ready to head back yesterday and got home around 6:30. Ephrem had enough time to eat some yellow curry from my favorite Thai restaurant, run around a little and then go to bed. Overall it was a great trip.
This weekend was also special because one year ago, we saw this little photo for the first time.
We accepted our referral on my birthday.
And now, he’s here. I still have to pinch myself that God would bless us with such a beautiful life.
