As previously mentioned here and here, Ephrem is not a great sleeper. And when the kiddo doesn’t sleep, mom and/or dad don’t sleep. And for someone who battled with insomnia for almost two years, I am averse to losing any more sleep…and sanity. (I am one of those people who understands why sleep deprivation is a form of torture.)
Thanks to one of Evan’s sisters, we’re being methodical about our approach to sleep finally. (Apparently sleeping and putting yourself to sleep is something you have to be taught to do. Who knew?!) We know a lot of parents use the Ferber method, but that wasn’t an approach we really felt comfortable using. Just reading The Sleep Lady’s method made me have hope about possibly sleeping and getting to lay off the heavy duty concealer.
Last week, we finally got Ephrem to start sleeping is his crib in his room. Before, he would wake up every 10 minutes if he realized he was in his crib. It was awful. Evan sacrificed and slept on an air mattress in the room with him all last week so that Ephrem would know that he’s ok and we’re still right there for him if he needs us. Now that he’s comfortable sleeping in his room, we’ve started The Sleep Shuffle.
Here’s hoping that The Sleep Lady knows what she’s talking about and that Ephrem will learn what we teach him and start sleeping!
We’ll let you know how it goes!
